Maybelline Color Elixir in Caviar Coutuer

Hello!! I have officially jumped on the dark lips trend for fall. I always admired someone who could pull off that super dark, vampy lip color. I however, never thought I could. I started off with some Berry toned lipsticks to get myself out of my comfort zone, but I saw a Maybelline Color Elixir a few days ago that was darker than anything I owned and thought, why not? I knew I wanted to go into Mac soon and try on a few darker shades, but I thought I would test it out first with a cheaper, affordable lip color.

Let me tell you, I am in love.

This is Maybelline Color Elixir in Caviar Couture.

This was my first time trying out these Color Elixirs, so I will be doing a review for them in this post too.

The wand is a typical doe foot applicator. Nothing special, but not bad either.

I was really drawn to this dark purple shade with a hint to red in it. It's super glossy, but if you blot it then it can be more matte.

My thoughts-
-I'm really loving this color and I love how it's dark but doesn't look too dark against my pale skin.
-I honestly didn't like the formula of this color elixir too much. I found it kind of difficult to apply and it came out really patchy when worn by it's self. But the next time I wore it, I applied it over a lipstick and it turned out better. I don't know if this is because it's a dark color, and maybe the lighter shades don't do this?
-These are super pigmented, but are also buildable  in color. Which I think is nice for darker shades, so you can sheer it out, or build it up.
-When applying this one, I had to apply it and then blot it, and then apply it again to get rid of the patchiness.
-I also liked how glossy this looked, but if you blot it then it toned down the sheen and turned more matte.
-I didn't find this drying out my lips or settling into any cracks I had since my lips are pretty dry.
-This is great for the price and even though I didn't love the formula, I didn't hate it either. Definitely something I can work with since I love the color so much.

I can't wait to try out more dark shades!
What are you favorite dark lip colors?? Let me know because I am on the hunt for more!

  1. I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to a darker lip, but I feel like that color goes perfect with your complexion! I bought one of the Elixirs a week or two go in a deep berry shade, but I have yet to try it out (go figure right?), but this makes me want to now!

  8. It looks really good on you! I wish I could pull off something like this, but I find that I look almost clownish because of my lips shape haha. I never noticed you had a nose ring! Or maybe I did but I forgot? That seems to happen a lot~
