Maybelline 'The Smokes' Palette Review

Hello blog world!! I had a lot of you say that you would love to see a review on the new Maybelline The Smokes Palette on my last haul post! Today I'm going to share pictures, swatches, a review, and a comparison to The Nudes palette! Oh and an eye look I created ;)

With Maybelline launching these palettes, they have been quite the hype in the beauty community lately and I can definitely see why. I don't think many other drugstore brands have palettes like these, so naturally like everyone else I went crazy to get my hands on both palettes- especially since I loved the nudes one so much.

I've also heard rumors that Maybelline will have another palette called 'The Brights'.
Same packaging as the Nudes palette. These are around $9.99 in the drugstore. I found this one at Walgreens.

There are twelve shades. Both matte and shimmer.

Here are the swatches. A lot of them look really patchy, not pigmented, and not impressive. This is how the nudes looked when I swatched it too. But I will say these apply to the eyes a lot better and more pigmented than they do swatched. Same with the nudes palette.

Eye Look with the Smokes Palette

Comparison and Review

Here are the two palettes together. The Nudes has more nuetral and warm tones while The Smokes has more cool toned with purples, gray/silver, and blue shades.

My Thoughts-
-I personally don't wear a lot of purples, blues, and gray/silver shades so I don't really know why I wanted this one so badly. I do think it's a great palette if your into those shades.
-I do love the matte brown shade (first on bottom row) and the taupe color directly next to it. I have been using these two along with the deep matte purple (second to last in top row) everyday since I got this palette. Which is the colors I used for the eye look I showed earlier.
-Other than those colors, I don't really know what to do with the palette honesty. I think I will use the blues and silvers if I need them for a special look or occasion but not for everyday.
-Like I said, if you are into these colors then you will definitely love this palette and it's great for the price!
-I much prefer the Nudes because those are the colors I wear everyday.

Will I picked up The Brights Palette? Probably. I don't wear a lot of bright colors but I found myself lusting over the Urban Decay Electric Palette when it came out, so this one will be a much more affordable version (hopefully).

Have you picked up The Smokes Palette yet? If so, leave your thoughts on it in the comments!

  1. Pretty eyeshadow look Ashley! I think this and the upcoming the brights palettes are good to have especially if you're a person who is starting out with wearing colors besides nude shades! I still haven't seen it in stores yet lol! I guess I will continue my search haha! Great review!

    1. Thanks Pilar!! I hope you can find it soon!! And I totally agree- if you aren't use to those types of colors, it's better to start off with something affordable than to spend a ton of money on something you may not use often!

  2. I love how it looks on your eye, but I have grown away from silvers and those types of colors. But a possible brights one sounds fun!
