Urban Decay Naked Smokey Review

Hello! I'm finally getting around to doing a review for the Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette. This was in the favorites video from July so you all already know I love this palette.

When I first heard about this palette I was excited because it's different from all the other naked palettes. I don't own anything like this one. Ive heard a few people say they don't do smokey looks often so they were unsure about this, but honesty there's such a veriety of colors that you can easily do some nuetral looks too!

This is $54, and even though it's some what annoying how UD keeps upping their prices on these plattes, it's still worth every penny.

Here's the the palette and pictures taken with and without the flash.

Here's swatched of the first half. These shimmery shades are beyond gorgoues. I can't get over how pretty they are. The color high (first on left) is my favorite for this palette. These are super pigmented, and these alone are worth buying the palette for in my opinion.

Here's swatched of the second half. All of these are matte except for the purple sahde smolder and the black one black market. The shimmer in them is very faint though. I love the matte shades, but I find them a little harder to blend than other UD matte shadows.

I love all the colors in this palette. They are all cool toned and a nice change from the warm tones I usually wear.

Eye Looks
This one is my favorite and the one I keep doing when I use this palette. It's super simple only using three shades.

This ones also very simple using only 3 shades.

This one is the most smokey look that I've done with using a darker color on the  lid.

My overall thoughts
-As I've already mentioned, I love this palette. I think anyone who is a fan of UD would like this. Out of all the Naked palettes, this is my second favorite one next to the original. I like it much more than the naked 2 and 3.
-Also like I said before, you can easily do neutral looks with this (see my first and second eye look) so if you aren't into smokey eyes, this can still be something you'd like.
-The colors a buttery and pigmented just like all of UDs shadows, but some of the mattes are harder to blend than others (this could be because of my super dirty crease brush though LOL).
-The packaging is really nice. It's a magnetic closure, so it's different than the naked 2 and 3 packaging.
-The brush that comes with this is amazing quality as well.

What are your thoughts on the Naked Smokey Palette? Is this one you'll add to your collection?

  1. Yay to this review, I was waiting for it! I still can't believe I got this in my stash waiting to be used but it looks so pretty that I don't want to ever touch it. Haha! I 100% agree that this palette is very versatile, it's not restricted to only smokey eyes but one can easily do neutrals too.

Great review, Ashley! Do you think you can do a video tutorial on one of the eye makeup?

    1. Thanks Shireen!! And I totally agree that it looks way too pretty to use!!

And omg I actually filmed a tutorial using them but I kept putting my head down weird so my eyes weren't even in the camera when I was applying the shadow!! I was so angry LOL!!! I'm going to try to film it again!

  2. I love this review Ashley and the eye makeup is flawless! I like how versatile this palette is! You already know my love for Urban Decay Eyeshadows, so you can imagine that this palette is on my wish list lol! It is annoying how the prices keep going up! I noticed a lot of people on IG are upset that MAC Lipsticks are now $17.00! I remember when those lipsticks were $15.00!

  3. Password is SUCH A PRETTY SHADE. I'm on the fence about getting this one since I gave away my Naked2 to my sister, and I'm not getting much use out of Naked3 even though I used to really love it. The packaging is amazingggg though, I love the smokey chromey finish. I love the first eye look as well - maybe I'll get this palette during the VIB sale and if I don't like it I can always return it :P

    1. I loveeee the password shade too!!! I really think you'd like this one though, I never use my naked 2 and Id pick this one over it any day! But since the VIB sale is only a few months away that would be a good time to wait for it!

  5. Ashley, you're making this hard for me! LOL The colors are really pretty and you have definitely proven how versatile it is. I may pick it up in November at the VIBRouge Sale. Cosmetics in general are just SO EXPENSIVE! Mid-range is about $30 on up! Drugstore brands are now at $10+. I feel so old, because I mumble under my breath...I REMEMBER WHEN MASCARA WAS $5.99 LMFAOOO Let me stop! Great post!

    1. Thank you Kim! And LOL!!! Don't worry I remember when mascara was that cheap too! And I think the VIB sale would be a good time to get this! I'm such a sucker for palettes so it's hard for me not to get them, especially urban decay even though they are so much! It's so sad when I see a highend palette that's only $30-40 and think it's cheap now because they are so darn expensive!

  6. I love the eye looks you created using this palette! They're all so different, so this palette is a lot more versatile than the name Smokey would make you think. The more I see this palette around the more I really like it.

  7. I've somehow managed to avoid all the other Naked palettes so far, but I think this will be the first one I finally give into picking up! My first thoughts were too that I didn't do smokey looks enough to use these colors but you're right, they're versatile enough that it doesn't matter. Plus, I like that they included mattes and shimmers so you can actually do an entire look with just this one palette :D Eee it's so hard to resist.
