Hello!! I've been wanting to pick up the Mac Whirl Lipstick for a while now. I tried to stop myself since I have so many lipsticks already- not to mention ones that are probably similar, but the makeup addict in me caved after going to a Mac counter and swatching it three different times.
I know Mac Whirl lip liner is a cult favorite, and I think this lipstick might be a newer addition, but I'm not 100% sure.
Whirl is a Matte formula, which I find to be drying on my lips especially since I like to wear lipliners under my lipsticks. It's very opaque so it can be worn easily on its own, but I'm just so use to wearing a liner underneath now that it's hard to skip it. It's not my favorite formula from Mac, but it's a beautiful shade so I can deal with it. I also found that this isn't *too* similar to any others that I own because it's a bit darker than most of my nude lipsticks.
Overall I really like this lipstick, but since it is drying on my lips it's not one is wear everyday. I would really love to own Mac whirl lip liner as well someday, and think I might prefer that to the lipstick!

I agree, this formula is not my favorite but I just love this shade. I definitely need to add the lip liner to my collection as well. This looks absolutely perfect on you, Ashley!

DeleteThis is such a pretty shade! I don't think I have many MAC matte lipsticks. I think Russian Red is the only matte one I have. The ColourPop matte lipsticks aren't really that drying to me if you are looking for cheaper alternatives. Their liquid lipsticks are a bit more drying.

DeleteI have Ruby Woo, Lady Danger which are matte and retro matte, very drying but also very pretty so what can I say, I wear them as much as I could. LOL! I think this is the first time I'm reading about Mac Whirl lipstick, all this while I've only read about the lip liner. Must say the shade is really pretty on you, Ashley!

Thank you Shireen!! I think this was a recent release because I use to only hear about the lip liner too!! And ruby woo is a beautiful red, I'll have to check out the lady danger one! And I guess we have to sacrifice our lips sometimes for pretty shades lol!!

DeleteWhirl looks so pretty on you Ashley! Here's a trick, when you apply your lip liner put some lip balm on top, then add your lipstick. That should help solve the dryness issues. If you want to just line your lips, sandwich the lip balm between the lipstick and lip liner that can also help reduce dryness! Hope this helps! I was skeptical about the Retro Matte and Matte lipsticks from MAC, but for the lipsticks I find drying these tips help. I wrote a post over the summer on ways to wear a matte lip. DeleteI like it a lot too! And it's just a different kind of shade so I know what you mean. I loved it when I swatched it but I didn't try it on in store so when o got it home I was kind of unsure but now I like it!
