Nars Kalahari Eyeshadow Duo

Hello! Today I'm sharing my review for the Nars eyeshadow Duo in Kalahari. I've wanted one of these shadows duos from Nars ever since I got into makeup a few years ago. Their blushes are my absolute favorite, but their shadows have quite the high price tag- which is why I never picked one up. Getting 20% off at the VIB sale made me justify the price a little more!

These run for $35 for two shadows. Which is $17-18 a shadow, which is right in between Mac and Urban Decay shadows (single shadows), which isn't too bad but when your using to buying a whole palette of tons of colors for $40-50, $35 for only two is usually a big no no for me.

Ok price rant aside- let's talk about the beautiful shades in this Kalahari Duo. These are both gorgoues bronze/taupe shades that make for a quick two shade eye look- which is really why I wanted one of these. Sometimes in the morning I don't want to be bothered with a whole palette so I like grabbing this and quickly blending the darker shade in my crease, and using the lighter one on my lid.

My over all thoughts
-This was in my November favorites, so I obviously do love this, but I do have some issues with it too.
-I'll talk about the good first. It's has two gorgoues shades that make for a quick eye look like I said before. They both have shimmer in them, but it's nothing over the top. The colors blend really nice, and the pigmentation is decent. I've also always loved the sleek-ness of Nars packaging. It's always been one of my favorite things about this makeup brand.
-It's not as buttery as Urban Decay or Lorac Shadows, but the pigmentation is better than some shadows that I've used. I'm going to compare the pigment to Mac shadows, but that is just my opinion.
-My issue with this duo is the fall out on it is pretty bad. I know it happens, even with the best of shadows, but you all know how annoying that can be. It's  manageable, and I still love the shadows but I just think for how expensive this is there shouldn't be much fall out.
-I do love this like I said before, but I don't think I would purchase another one of these.

Have you tried any of the Nars duos? Leave your thoughts on them in the comments!

Extras-
I've decided to try to do my 'it's the little things posts' twice a month instead of every Friday instead! I get stressed out if I can't find something good to share and I don't like to half ass posts like that!
-two weeks ago it snowed 10 inches, and now it's 50 degrees and sunny. It will be in the 60s on Sunday! Definitely doesn't feel like Christmas or December lol!!

  1. Thanks for the honest review Ashley! These colors are gorgeous and right up my alley. I am with you though...for $35.00 for 2 shadows is alot when you can buy whole palette for not much more (or the same price if you like Morphe palettes like me). But regardless, the look you created is beautiful.

    1. Thanks Tanya! I'm glad you agree with you! If I didn't have the 20% off I wouldn't have spent $35! And yes there's definitely palettes that are way better for that price!!

  2. First review that I read on this duo that mentioned about the fall out so thank you for your honesty, Ashley! I wouldn't pick this up then because I would be so pissed off after paying that much, the cheap arse bitch in me would come out clawing and I can only handle writing one nasty review about Nars. LOL!

    1. LOL!! You never fail to make me laugh Shireen!! And I mean I have fall out even with some on my Urban Decay shadows, but I was just super annoyed by this one for how expensive it is!

  3. Fall out is the absolute worst! It really annoys me when makeup is pricey and then you have to deal with a lotnof fall out! It's a shame because the shadows are so pretty! I know what you mean about the weather. It really doesn't start getting super cold here until January, but the other week the temperature stayed in the 50's. Yesterday I could wear flip flops since it was around 78 degrees! The weather won't make up it's mind lol!

    1. I get super annoyed too!! Some of my urban decay shadows have fall out too, but this one seems a little worse. And ahhh I'm so jealous it's 78 there! That's like perfect weather lol! But yes it definitely won't make up its mind. I don't want it to get cold, but it just doesn't seem like Christmas here when it's not snowing lol!

  5. I totally understand with the not being able to find something to share! I used to do that with monthly favorites, but I wasn't discovering a lot of favorites in some months and it made me stressed trying to actively look for some!

I've been wanting some NARS shadows as well but I can't justify the price point yet. I might get one of their palettes, but maybe not any duos or singles any time soon!

  6. Oooh, yeah, $35 for 2 shadows is a lot, and I don't see myself spending that much. Thanks for the honest review, they look beautiful but I'll pass. Haha! OMG it was 79 yesterday, 79! Like wtf! That is not December weather AT ALL!

  8. This is pretty but thanks for being honest about that fallout!! That is one thing I have a hard time dealing with because I forget about it and end up smearing the little particles all over my face haha

    1. Haha I do the same thing! And I won't apply my eye shadow before my face makeup either like some do so they can clean it up before hand!

  10. Love your price rant Ashley! I feel the same way about Nars, hence why you never see it on my blog. I tried a couple of their blushes and was not really impressed. The packaging is always pretty. The colors are always pretty. But the formulas are not very impressive. The colors look great on your eyes! Beautiful! If you didn't tell us about the fall out, we wouldn't know. So thanks!

  11. I tried a couple of these duos years ago, and I didn't find them all that special then, either. The formula could be completely different now. Fallout gets on my nerves too. Sometimes, it can't be helped, like with super shimmery shades, but just a typical satin/shimmer shouldn't have a lot. This is a pretty duo, and the shades a very flattering on you.

    1. Thanks Lauren! They are pretty but you're right that they aren't super special! And fall out is manageable to me but it's annoying that these are expensive with it!
