I get pretty excited when I see new foundations out at the drugstore. I want to try them all! I saw this new Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation at Target and I've been trying it out for a few weeks and I'm ready to share my thoughts!
I sware when I bought this at Target it was $8.99 but now looking online, it seems to be $10.99 everywhere. I like how the packaging is a squeeze tube, but it's hard to see what color it is since the bottle isn't clear and drugstore usually don't have testers. The shade I picked was okay, but maybe a tiny bit too dark for me. This was the second lightest shade and I'm always afraid the lightest will be too light.
This foundation is getting a lot of excitement because it's suppose to be both matte and hydrating which I don't think is offered in a lot of foundations. For someone with oily skin but gets a little dry during winter time, this foundation sounds like a dream right?

Apply Maybelline Dream Velvet™ Foundation using Maybelline Dream Blender.
I personally haven't tried it with the Maybelline dream blender that the description is recommends to use it with. It didn't look appealing to me but I did however try it with my beauty blender. I found the best way for me to apply this is using my Sigma F80 flat top kabuki, and applying two coats.
The formula is thick. It blends out okay. I definitely do not agree with their 12 hour claims. I don't find this foundation long lasting at all- even with a primer, setting powder, and setting spray. The coverage is medium like it claims, but I didn't find it covered much redness or blemishes on my skin. I've found that most of the 'dream' line from Maybelline foundations have broke my skin out in the past, but I've heard that removed the ingredient that was in there for this foundation. I did have some breakouts on my face while using this so I'm not sure if this was that cause.
Bottom line, this is just can okay foundation for me. I wouldn't repurchase it, and I'm not sure how much I'll reach for it. I'm pretty sure I paid $8.99 for it like I said, but I don't think it's worth the $10.99 that in finding it online for.
Have you tried out this new Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation? If so, let me know your thoughts on it in the comments!
Haaa! Thank you so much for you review on this, Ashley! I have seen this appearing everywhere because it's new but this is the first review I've read about it. Definitely not for me then because I love light foundations.

I definitely do not think you'd like this one Shireen lol!! To me it's light because I like fuller coverage but it's super thick!
DeleteThank you SO much for your honest review. I almost bought this the other day, but decided to wait. I prefer full coverage foundations and long-lasting ones as well. Great review! xo

ReplyDeleteHaha you're welcome, and thank you I'm glad this review is helpful! I honestly wouldn't recommend this one at all!!
DeleteI am so so happy you reviewed this. I almost purchased this but something told me 'no'. I need a foundation that will last me all day!
ReplyDeleteI kind of had a feeling about it too, but I just get so curious about new foundations and always want to try them!
DeleteI'm going crazy buying everything too, it's so bad!! Thanks for the review, I've seen a few similar opinions so will give it a miss x

I'm glad you've seen similar opinions and I'm not the only one go feels this way!!
DeleteI was interested in how this foundation would be. My all time favorites are the L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte foundation and the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation.
ReplyDeleteI love both of those conditions too, and they are so much better than this one!
DeleteI really appreciate an honest review! I've heard people raving about this, but you can never be sure because everyone is so different. A matte foundation that doesn't really last isn't something I want. Maybe if I had super dry skin, then I would give it a chance.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that everyone's skin is different! I've heard good things about it too, but it didn't work for me!
DeleteThis is my first hearing about this Ashley! So thanks for reviewing it. I definitely need full coverage, so this wouldn't work for me anyway. Maybelline products have been hit and miss with me. I need to do a drugstore visit! LOL

Maybelline foundations are hit and miss for me too. I love the fit me matte and pore less by them, but that's it so far! And I like a fuller coverage too!
DeleteThanks for reviewing this foundation Ashley! I'm still on a search to find a drugstore foundation that I like, so this post is very helpful! I prefer full coverage foundations that aren't too thick!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find a new one from the drugstore that's perfect! There's a lot of them that I like, but I reach for my high end ones more!
Deletei reviewed thisone today! i'm glad you didn't get the sponge applicator. it is AWFUL. good for underneath the eyes though for setting, but a total waste.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see your review! I can see how that would be good for under the eyes, but still unnecessary!
