5 on Friday | Foundations I Regret Buying

Hello! Happy May 1st!
Today for 5 on Friday I'm going to share 5 foundations that I regret buying/didn't work for me. Please keep in mind that I'm in no way bashing these products, these are just my opinions because they didn't work for me. They might work for you, and if they do let me know in the comments! We all have different skin so I'm always curious about products that work or don't work for me and how they work for someone else!

•Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation. I will admit that I gave this foundation a really great review here  a while back but I have since changed my mind about it. I find that I don't like the coverage of it, or that I don't like the shade that I have for my skin. It does match my skin well but I perfer shades with a little more color and this one makes me washed out. I also find that the liquid to powder formula looks cakey on my skin.

•Maybelline Dream Wonder Foundation. This had a god awful perfume scent that I couldn't stand. It also had no coverage which was the main reason I didn't care for it.

•Covergirl Ultra Smooth Foundation. This one had a super thick formula that didn't blend well and sit on my skin well. It looked cakey after a while. I was disappointed in this one because Covergirl foundations usually work well for me!

•Nyx Invinsible Fullest Coverage Foundation. I also did a review for this one here  but this is by far the worst one that I've used. It was so gross and oily on my skin I felt like a big grease ball.

•L'Oreal True Match Foundation. Everyone and their mother loves this foundation. So that's why I tried it and had high hopes. It just didn't do anything for me. The coverage wasn't good for my skin and it just didn't look like I was wearing anything. I've worn it a few times on days where I didn't feel like doing much makeup but it's just one I didn't care for. I also tried the True Match Lumi and felt the same way.

Have you tried out any of these foundations? Let me know your thoughts on them! Is there any foundations you regret buying?

Also I plan to do more posts on products I regret buying, and look forward to some top 5 lipsticks posts soon since a few of you requested me to do some!

  1. That's too bad these foundations don't work for you! I haven't been too successful with drugstore foundations because the ones I've tried made my face feel oily lol!

    1. I've noticed that a lot of them do that to me too Pilar! Except for a few Covergirl ones and I do like the Matte version of Maybelline fit me!

  2. Dang it, Ashley! I am planning to purchase True Match but now I am a little hesitant. Some said it's a dupe for Armani Meastro foundation so it got me curious. If the lack of coverage is the only thing that bothers you then I might still like it because I am a fan of sheer and light coverage. :-/

    1. I actually think you might might the True Match Shireen! And I've heard a lot of pepoke say the coverage is good so maybe I just didn't have a good color! I would still try it, at least it's affordable if you don't like it!

  3. Great post Ashley!! I regret buying the NYX Invincible one. I loved it at first because it matched my skin so well and I used a tiny tiny amount (less than a dime size) but now that I need more coverage it feels oily if I put on more. I might try mixing it with something but I'm kinda hesitant on drugstore foundations now. :(

    1. Thanks Margo! I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like that one! I wouldn't even know what to mix it with since it's such a thick and oily formula!

  4. I tried L'Oreal True Match LONG AGO when it first came out and it made my skin look OILY! As you know I have dry skin, so I found that to be shocking. Plus it was streaky. So i agree with your assessment. What a shame about Hourglass! That was on my list, but I'll beware. HaHaHaHa Never tried the others, but I'll definitely beware. HaHaHa Great job Ashley! Have an amazing weekend doll.

    1. Thanks Kim! I'm glad someone agrees with me about the true match!! Yes beware of the hourglass one- I remember you said you wanted to try it. It's very mattifying but I think they have another formula that you might like better!

  5. I wanted to try the Maybelline Dream Wonder Foundation but Im hesitant as I've heard mix reviews about it... I suggest you to try Revlon ColorStay Foundation Since these foundations did not work well for you. I love the coverage it gave me and this drugstore foundation has been my go to foundation for years. Also, I can wait to read your top 5 lipstick soon, coz Im a lip junkie. hehe :)

    1. I actually use to use Revlon Color Stay years ago but I've been wanting to pick it up again! And I've heard mixed about the Maybelline too, some people really like it! It just didn't work for me. Thanks Renny!

  6. Out of the ones mentioned, I've only tried the True Match once....I wasn't a big fan either. But then again it was the wrong color for me, but it just wasn't that great of coverage. I like full coverage, matte foundations. Girl, my skin is an oily mess!

    1. I definitely wouldn't recommend any of these to you then! Maybe the hourglass one, my friend has oil skin and she said this keeps her so matte!!
