Hello!! I'm sure you all have seen the new Real Techniques Face Sponge floating around the beauty community. Real Techniques is one of my favorite makeup brush brands, and being a huge beauty blender sponge fan I had to try this.
I'm going to share my review and thoughts on this sponge, and also be comparing it to the beauty blender.
"Optimize your beauty routine with this 3-in-1 multi-functional sponge.
- Rounded sides blend large areas of the face with a repeated dabbing or “stippling” motion.
- Precision tip covers blemishes and imperfections.
- Flat edge for the contours around the eyes and nose.
- Its versatile design evenly blends makeup for a smooth, enhanced finish."
This sponge, like the beauty blender, is made to be used while damp. This sponge expands in size after it is damp too.
It is about the same size, maybe a tiny bit bigger than the beauty blender.
This is both of the sponges damp.
While the BB is a teardrop shape, the RT sponge has and flat side, a rounder side, and a pointed side. I have been using the flat side of the sponge to apply my foundation with, and thr pointed side for concealer.
My thoughts on this sponge-
-The texture of this sponge is super soft and feels really nice on the face.
-It's not as 'bouncy' as the beauty blender is, but since it's soft that's okay.
-This sponge is only $6, so that's quite a price cut from the BB ($20).
-I don't think this sponge gives my face an as flawless look as the beauty blender does. I have tried this out with a few different foundations, but my face still looks nice when I use it.
-I think this sponge absorbs more foundation than the BB does, which causes it to not give as much/as flawless coverage. I had to apply two coats of my Tarte Foundation with it.
-With a more liquidy/thin formula foundation, the sponge absorbing more product is ok, but for a ticker one it's not because then you have to use more product.
-It cleans the same way as a beauty blender does. I use my Soild BB cleanser and it was easy to clean.
-After about a week of using it, the sponge has cracks in it. One of my BB has cracks in it, but I used it for way longer than a week, and was cleaning it with a harsher soap.
-I much prefer the packing of the Beauty Blender to this one. I like how the BB comes in a little container, so I can store it in there. This RT one doesn't, so I'm not sure where to put it so it doesn't get dirty.
My overall thoughts-
I do like this sponge and I will continue to use it and probably repurchase it. I think it's a great alternative to the beauty blender for someone who doesn't want to spend the price for it. You can't best $6!
However, I still prefer my beauty blender to this sponge. There is just something about it that nothing can compre to. And since this one cracked, I think it might be more worth while to pay for the BB in the long run.
-However, I have been reaching for this one more than my BB since I bought it.
I recommend this Real Techniques Sponge to anyone who was thinking about trying it, or trying a Beauty Blender.
